Alpha is being hosted by the parish of St John Boste, in the Haydock Centre, on Wednesday evenings (6-8pm) until 18th November 2026. It is not necessary to attend every session. The evening comprises a meal, followed by a video, interspersed with group discussion.

This last week I had a young religious brother spend some time with me in the parish. Br John Mark is part of a community based in Denver, Colorado called the Servants of Christ Jesus. As part of his formation he has to undertake a ‘poverty pilgrimage’, no money, no phone, a rucksack and a change of clothes, relying only on providence and the generosity of those who he encounters…

‘Being Lost, Being Found,’ led by the recently ordained Fr Stephen Bamber will take place on Saturday 3rd October, at St Clare’s, Preston from 10:00am – 4:00pm, starting with Holy Mass.

Please use the new Mass intention envelopes available at the back of each church. These are pre-printed with a space to write your intention, a preferred date and your details.

Join us at 5.30pm in the Quiet Room, Haydock Centre, to discuss The Story of a Soul (St Thérèse of Lisieux)

The pilgrimage begins with Mass at 11am in St Marys, Fernyhalgh followed by a Blessed Sacrament Procession to the Shrine concluding with Benediction.

The Men’s Fellowship will resume on Friday 9th October in the Haydock Centre at 7pm.

There will be a “Curry Aid” evening at Soulby village hall on Friday 2nd October at 7.30pm. Tickets £17.50 are available from Sylvia on 01768 371394.

All those working in healthcare (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, receptionists, porters, chaplains and many more) are invited to Mass with our bishop on Saturday 17th October at 12.15pm in Lancaster Cathedral….

Thank you to those who joined last week for Mass with Bishop Paul and for those who brought and prepared food for the Jacob’s Join, also to the choir and those who arranged flowers. It was a wonderful way not just to formally recognise the beginning of my ministry here in the parish of St John Boste, but to bring the whole parish together with our bishop.
