St John Eudes
In speaking of the biretta which the priest wears he said, “The biretta is simply a cross which clerics wear on their heads to show that the Cross of Chris is their crown and their glory, whereby they re-echo St Pauls words, ‘God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.” The three peaks are symbolic of both the Holy Trinity and the priests threefold mission to teach, govern and sanctify.
